Unconfirmed reports say the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has tendered his resignation letter.

The embattled National chairman submitted his resignation letter to the PDP and the Presidency, our source say.

Tukur’s resignation is coming barely 24 hours after which he brushed aside a revolt by the National Working Committee, NWC, members of the party and insisted that only the National Convention of the party can remove him from office.

Tukur said that based on the constitution of the party not even the president could remove him from offfice after he summoned the NWC Monday. Members failed to turn up and he then made a statement to newsmen affirming his rights as the party’s leader.

The NWC members shunned the chairman against the backdrop of claim that they had lost total confidence on him and would not sit face-to-face with him again.

His resignation has been the major cause of the crisis rocking the ruling party leading to the defection of five key governors of the party to the opposition All Progressives Congress..

Details of his resignation still sketchy, but we shall keep our readers updated.
